The lectures in this activity represent the audio and PowerPoint lectures as delivered by faculty of the American Pain Society’s 28th Annual Scientific Meeting, held May 7-9, 2009 in San Diego, CA. Participation requires that learners listen to the audio component, view the presentation materials, and complete an evaluation. A computer with Internet access and speakers is needed.

Target Audience/Learning Objectives
The 28th Annual Scientific Meeting Online will offer current information about the diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute pain, chronic cancer and noncancer pain, and recurrent pain. Workshops are designed to enhance research or clinical skills pertinent to pain management and will feature content appropriate for professionals at several experience levels.
After listening to the lectures and viewing the slide materials, the participant should be able to:
- Describe various pain management models.
- Critique current basic science and clinical and psychological research with regard to its applicability to practice.
- Evaluate new trends, techniques, therapies, and diagnostic procedures in pain research and pain management.
Continuing Education Credit
The 28th Annual Scientific Meeting Online will offer continuing education credit for physicians who elect to participate in the entire activity by purchasing the full meeting option. Credit will be awarded for those sessions viewed and evaluated, up to a maximum of 14 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Participants will receive their continuing medical education certificates immediately after they submit their evaluations online.
APS is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing medical education for physicians. APS designates this continuing medical education activity for a maximum of 14 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM . Physicians should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
To receive AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM, the participant must listen to a lecture and view the accompanying slides. The participant will receive a username and password for the APS 28th Annual Scientific Meeting evaluation form; participants must complete the online evaluation form in order to receive a certificate of CME. Attendees of the live Annual Scientific Meeting who were awarded CME should not claim credit for those presentations previously attended. APS will only award a total of 14 hours of credit for the live meeting or the online activity.
